Originally called the Miamisburg Iron Foundry, this business was located on South Second Street along the canal next to what later became the Peerless Mill Inn. The Miami-Erie Canal supported many businesses in the community and the foundry was no exception. Waterpower from the canal was used to operate two large bellows and a grinding wheel for making parts for other local industries, such as the Miamisburg Twine and Cordage Company.

David Hoover bought the business in 1848 to build castings for reapers and mowers used by farmers. By 1936, John Barry purchased the foundry and passed it along to his son. Expanding the business, the factory moved in 1989 to North Main Street close to Church’s Flower Shop. In 1993 the Barry family sold it, and it is now the Miami Cast Company.

Once described as the “oldest foundry west of the Alleghenies” it is the oldest continually running company in Miamisburg.

This display showcases some of the many products produced by the Barry Foundry, including a souvenir trivet made for the United States Bicentennial in 1976. This circular trivet, engraved with the words “From the Adena to the Atom” celebrated the history of the city.
