The Miamisburg History Center
open Wednesday and Saturday from 1:00pm to 4:00pm and by appointment
The second annual Cemetery Restoration Workshop, featuring restoration specialist Ta Mara Conde from New Salem, Massachusetts, will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at the Gebhart Church cemetery. We will be learning the proper techniques for repairing and resetting gravestones, using national guidelines.
Time: 9:30AM to 5:00PM
A donation of $35.00 for members or $50.00 for non-members, payable by cash or check to the Miamisburg Historical Society. Payment can be dropped off on Wednesday or Saturday at the History Center, 35 South Fifth Street. You can also visit our website and pay using our easy VENMO link with a credit or debit card—please note “CEMETERY WORKSHOP” when you submit.
Lunch and water will be provided, as well as a workshop instructional packet with a list of what a person should bring to make it a comfortable day.
Any questions please contact Laurel Benner, 937-422-9716, or email mhsociety@historicalmiamisburg.org
Join us at the Heritage Village and be transported back to the year 1812 as we imagine the newly built Gebhart Tavern is visited by a recruitment party of U.S. soldiers scouring the frontier for recruits as the War of 1812 rages in the countryside and shores of the Great Lakes.
On leave from Fort Wayne, and dressed in period clothing of the time, a small group of historical reenactors will train you in the art of soldiering: how to carry and fire a musket*, march in formation, and follow orders. Hear stories from the front line, as our own Dr. John Treon, future founder of the little village of Miamisburg, serves as a surgeon at Fort Detroit under the command of General Hull. Learn about the struggles of life back then for the settlers, soldiers, and Native Americans as the boundary lines of a nation were being defined.
Will you join us in this call to arms?
* Important note: Wooden toy guns (completely inert and do not fire anything) will be handed out to those who would like to participate, and children are also encouraged to join.
Any questions please contact us at 937-866-5000 or email mhsociety@historicalmiamisburg.org
