Richard C. "Dick" Church (1941-2022) was a life-long resident of Miamisburg and retired in 2019 after serving as Mayor of Miamisburg for 28 years. He was a 1959 graduate of Miamisburg High School, playing in the marching band and editing the school newspaper. He served as a reporter for the Miamisburg News and then became co-owner of Church’s Flower Shop. Upon retiring, he quickly pursued his political dream of running for City Council. He was elected Mayor in 1991. That same year, the Mound Lab, one of the largest local employers, closed and Dick worked to reclaim the property, with the Department of Energy and federal government, creating the Mound Business Park.

Under his leadership the downtown historic district was revitalized, and he oversaw the creation of Riverfront Park. He helped pave the way for the development of the Austin Landing business park. Dick served on many local, regional, and national boards including the Miamisburg Historical Society, always proudly promoting the Miamisburg community. His slogan, “Great things are happening in Miamisburg,” was illustrated by his tireless efforts to serve our citizens.

When you look at the growth of the businesses, increased home construction, the excellent parks and recreation facilities, and increased traffic of people enjoying downtown Miamisburg, you can thank Richard C. Church, Jr.
